Royal Melbourne Showgrounds

People:Total Construction Cost: $108 Million
Location:Melbourne, VIC
Year:2006

Jackson Architecture was part of the PPP Solutions consortium that reinvigorated the Showgrounds. The crowd capacity was boosted from 42,000 to 50,000 and 70,000m2 of pavilion space was provided to create a better experience for visitors and exhibitors. In all 20 buildings were included in the project - ten were refurbished, three heritage buildings were relocated and seven new buildings designed and constructed.

The Grand Pavilion, an 8,000m2 fabric tensile structure will be the focus of the annual Royal Melbourne Show and also host circuses, concerts, exhibitions and other events throughout the year. The Town Square provides public open space separate from the main Arena where tiered seating will bring the 4,300 spectators close to the action. A revitalised main entrance and landscaped boulevards welcome visitors to the refurbished Showgrounds.
